Keeping Kids Warm: Rotary Embraces Koats for Kids Program
In a heartwarming display of community support, the Rotary Club of Kootenai Valley has stepped up to continue the beloved Koats for Kids program, formerly run by the Kootenai Kiwanis Club. This initiative aims to provide warm clothing, including coats, boots, socks, and gloves, to local children in need, ensuring they stay comfortable throughout the chilly winter months.Ensuring No Child is Left Out in the Cold
Carrying on a Cherished Tradition
The Kootenai Kiwanis Club's closure last month left a void in the community, but the Rotary Club has graciously stepped in to uphold the legacy of the Koats for Kids program. This transition ensures that the vital work of supporting underprivileged children in the area continues uninterrupted. The Rotary Club's commitment to this cause is a testament to their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of local youth.
Providing Warmth and Comfort
The Koats for Kids program is a lifeline for families struggling to keep their children warm during the winter. All items distributed through the program are either new or gently used, and the cleaning of these donations is generously provided by Moody's Dirty Laundry. This collaborative effort ensures that every child in need receives high-quality, clean clothing to shield them from the elements.
Expanding Accessibility
To make the Koats for Kids program more accessible, the Rotary Club has scheduled four giveaway events throughout the upcoming winter season. These events will take place on the following Saturdays: October 19th, November 16th, December 21st, and January 18th, 2025. All events will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the McGrade School gymnasium, located at 899 Farm to Market Rd in Libby.
Fostering Community Involvement
The Rotary Club is actively seeking volunteers to assist with the Koats for Kids giveaway events. By engaging the community in this initiative, the club aims to foster a sense of shared responsibility and compassion for the well-being of local children. Individuals interested in volunteering can contact the club at

Donation Drives and Ongoing Support
To ensure a steady supply of warm clothing for the Koats for Kids program, the Rotary Club will be placing donation bins at various businesses throughout Libby and Troy in the coming weeks. The community is encouraged to contribute new or gently used coats, boots, socks, and gloves to help keep local children warm and comfortable during the winter.
Strengthening Community Ties
The Rotary Club of Kootenai Valley is committed to maintaining a strong presence in the local community. The club meets on the first three Mondays of every month at Tiffany's, located at 408 Mineral Ave in Libby. These regular gatherings provide an opportunity for members to discuss ongoing initiatives, plan future events, and foster a sense of camaraderie within the organization.
